Pinotage was created in South Africa in 1925 when Abraham Perold crossed Pinot Noir with Cinsault. The result was a grape that is uniquely South African — neither European nor anything else, carrying the weight of a continent and the memory of two entirely different parents. It can be divisive, untamed, difficult. It can also be magnificent: dark-fruited, earthy, with a smoky depth that belongs to no other wine. The Same Sun was built on this tension. Born of contradiction, raised by fire. She carries the weight of the earth she came from, and wears it beautifully.

Every WiWwaW portrait begins not with a canvas or a lens but with a moodboard — a private, intuitive assembly of words, colours, textures and images that together form the wine's character translated into a woman. The moodboard for The Same Sun travels with the finished work to its collector: a window into the creative process, a second layer of the work itself.

"He doesn't make artworks. He creates encounters."
